The story

A grey cough has come out of the Sallow Wood on the autumn wind, and the children of Wendle Cross are sick with it. The village herbalist knows a cure: the pale bell-apples of a wild orchard deep in the wood, behind the walls of a house no one has lived in for forty years. She sent her apprentice to fetch a basket of them five days ago. He has not come back. She will pay well for apples, and better for the boy.

A one or two session expedition for three to six characters: an old road into a silent wood, a hut with a body in it, vines that hang like bell-ropes, an orchard where the bells ring with no wind, a barn of thieving little root-creatures, a forgotten manor with a lady still at her table, and a well that breathes.
