Credits and thanks

Built on games their makers chose to share.

Every table on Elrune runs on rules that designers and publishers released under open licences. This page names them, thanks them and points you to their own books and sites. Elrune is an independent product; none of them is affiliated with it or endorses it.

Game system: BRP

BRP

Basic Roleplaying rules under the ORC License

Elrune began with these rules. Percentile skills that grow with use, characteristics rolled on the table and fights where every blow counts: the engine Jason Durall and Steve Perrin set down has decades of play behind it, and Chaosium chose to open it to everyone under the ORC License. Thank you for that generosity; our first and deepest system is built on it.

5E compatible, System Reference Document 5.1

Releasing the SRD 5.1 under Creative Commons gave everyone who makes games a firm, lasting footing for fifth edition rules. Classes, spells and creatures from it run our 5E (SRD 5.1) tables square by square, with its notice beside them. Thank you to Wizards of the Coast for putting it in the open.

The SRD 5.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.

Changes: Elrune extracted the SRD 5.1 text into structured data: layout removed, typographic quotes and dashes normalised, stat blocks, spells and tables split into fields, and rules expressed as code. No rule text was added to the SRD material; anything the SRD does not state is marked BLOCKED: SOURCE VERIFICATION instead of being filled in.

The newer reference rules, weapon masteries and all, came out under the same open licence as the first. We keep them as a separate game here, with their own notice, so a table can choose the edition it loves. Thank you for opening the second one too.

Game system: Aspects and Fate Points

Aspects and Fate Points

Based on Fate Core System

Aspects, fate points and a ladder of skills: a game that puts the story first and trusts the table. Evil Hat shared the whole system under Creative Commons so that others could build on it, and the people named here developed, wrote and edited it. Our Aspects and Fate Points tables are based on their work. Thank you.

Where else the credits appear

Each system’s short credit line also sits beside its material: on its sheets and tables, in the rules library, on its adventures’ pages and in the showcase. Adventures that creators publish on Elrune carry the notice of the rules they are built on.
