Five games, six rule sets, one table
Your table,
alive.
Elrune is a virtual tabletop for the games you play. Build characters by each game’s rules, run ready-made adventures on a live 3D board, and let the server roll every die.
Plays BRP · 5E (2024 or 2014 rules) · Aspects and Fate Points · Forged in the Dark · Into the Wood
In the browser on phone, tablet or PC. Players pay nothing to join: the game master’s plan covers the table.
On the board: The Astral Tower, first floor, from The Astral Tower. Layout only, nothing spoiled.

The play table
Everyone at one table,
wherever they sit.
Real 3D terrain with light, weather and time of day. Miniatures walk the squares, blows land on the board, and the rules keep everyone honest.
- A cockpit for the GM and for players
- Turn order, the acting fighter, sheets, chat and dice in panels you arrange; board focus gives the map the whole screen.
- Strict turns by the book
- Each game keeps its own rules: turn order, movement, attacks and defenses resolved the way its rules say.
- Every roll on the server
- Players cannot fake a result, and every roll joins the campaign’s tamper-evident chain.
- Monsters that can play themselves
- The NPC autopilot moves and fights through the same checks a player’s turn goes through.

Maps
Walk every board
before you play.
Every adventure in the library opens its boards in the map explorer: fly round them in 3D or look at them flat, on a phone or a big screen. Visitors see the layout only, never a foe or a secret room.
127 boards across 20 adventures, more as creators publish.
Adventures
Ready to run tonight.
Prepared adventures with scenes, people, clues, boards and fights, each written for its own game system. Pick one, invite your players and start at the first scene.
Dice
Dice nobody can fake.
Every roll at a table is made on our server and sealed into a chain of SHA-256 hashes. Change one, and every link after it breaks. Try the idea here.
Spot at 60%. Roll under it to succeed.
Critical ≤ 3 · Special ≤ 12 · Fumble ≥ 98
- start · 00000000
A demo: these dice roll in your browser. At a real table every roll happens on our server and joins the campaign's chain, so nobody (not even the GM) can fake or erase one.
Characters
Every number
explained.
Every game has its own character builder, with the math shown at every step: characteristics and skill points in BRP, class and ability scores in 5E, aspects and a skill pyramid in Aspects and Fate Points, action dots and a playbook in Forged in the Dark and a background and ten inventory slots in Into the Wood. The numbers that follow work themselves out. Click a skill to roll it. Then give your hero a face: Víkingur was built in BRP, and the portrait comes from the same 3D engine as the table.

Write it, keep it, share it.
Story Studio
Write your own adventure: scenes, boards, people, clues and prepared fights. Publish it to the library or share it by link.
Campaign Chronicle
Each campaign’s story told back from what actually happened: scenes reached, choices made, fights replayed in 3D, legendary rolls with proof.

By the book
The rules,
exactly as written.
Every game system runs on its own rules engine, worked out for you at every roll. Where a rulebook leaves room for a call, the call is written down, not hidden in code. Pick a game to see how its core roll works.
Basic Roleplaying rules under the ORC License
BRP
Roll D100 under your skill. Very low is a special or a critical; very high can fumble.
- 01Everyone acts in order of DEX rank
- 02A full move is MOV × 3 meters a round
- 03Move more than 5 m and you act at half your DEX rank
- 04The defense is only rolled if the attack succeeds
- 05Bleeding wounds keep costing hit points each round
- 06A stunned fighter can only defend
- 07Missiles lose accuracy beyond their base range
- 08Situation modifiers: Easy, Average, Difficult
- 09A fighting withdrawal: back away, no attacks that round
- 10Criticals, specials and fumbles scale with the skill
One roll, five fates
Every percent has a story.
Roll under your skill to succeed. Roll very low for a special or a critical, very high and you fumble. Drag the skill and watch the odds reshape, exactly as the rules work out at the table.
Success
You did it. Rolled 42 against skill 60%.
- Critical01–03
- Special04–12
- Success13–60
- Failure61–97
- Fumble98–00
Critical ≤ 3 · Special ≤ 12 · Fumble ≥ 98 · 01–05 always succeed, 96+ always fail.
5E compatible, System Reference Document 5.2.1
5E 2024
The newer 5E reference rules: a D20 plus your modifier against a number, with Heroic Inspiration and weapon masteries.
- 01Every D20 Test is a D20 plus your modifier against a number
- 02Heroic Inspiration lets you reroll one die and keep the new roll
- 03Each level of Exhaustion takes 2 off every D20 Test
- 04Weapon masteries add an effect after a hit, for weapons you trained with
- 05Initiative is a Dexterity check; move and take one action a turn
- 06At 0 hit points you make death saving throws: three successes or three failures
5E compatible, System Reference Document 5.1
5E 2014
Roll a D20, add your modifier and meet or beat the number: a Difficulty Class or Armor Class.
- 01A check is a D20 plus your modifier against a Difficulty Class
- 02Advantage keeps the higher of two D20, disadvantage the lower
- 03A natural 20 on an attack is a critical hit: the damage dice roll twice
- 04Initiative is a Dexterity check, highest first
- 05Move, take one action, and a bonus action only when a feature grants one
- 06At 0 hit points you make death saving throws: three successes or three failures
Based on Fate Core System
Aspects and Fate Points
Roll four Fate dice, add your skill and read the result on the ladder against the opposition.
- 01Four Fate dice show plus, minus or blank, from −4 to +4
- 02Add your skill and read the total on the ladder, Mediocre (+0) to Legendary (+8)
- 03Four outcomes: fail, tie, succeed, succeed with style
- 04Four actions: overcome, create an advantage, attack, defend
- 05Spend a fate point to invoke an aspect for +2 or a reroll
- 06No hit points: stress boxes and consequences absorb a hit
Forged in the Dark rules
Forged in the Dark
Roll a pool of D6 and read the highest die: 6 is a full success, 4 or 5 a partial, two 6s a critical.
- 01Roll as many D6 as your action rating and read the highest die
- 026 is a full success, 4 or 5 a success with a consequence, 1 to 3 a bad outcome
- 03Two or more 6s is a critical; with zero dice roll two and keep the lowest
- 04The GM sets position (controlled, risky, desperate) and effect before you roll
- 05Assist, push yourself or take a Devil’s Bargain for an extra die
- 06Resist a consequence by paying stress; clocks track every obstacle
Based on Cairn Second Edition by Yochai Gal
Into the Wood
Save with a D20 under STR, DEX or WIL. Attacks always hit: roll the weapon die, minus armour.
- 01A save is a D20: equal to or under the attribute passes
- 02A 1 always passes, a 20 always fails
- 03Attacks always hit: roll the weapon die and subtract armour
- 04Several attacks on one target keep only the highest die
- 05Damage takes HP first, then STR, with a save against critical damage
- 06No classes or levels: ten inventory slots and what you carry

Players
Pay nothing to join
The game master’s plan covers the table. Make characters, roll dice, chat, keep the journal and play on the 3D table at any table you are invited to. Sessions with a professional game master cost what that GM charges.
