The story
Saltmere is a fishing town proud of one thing: in fifty years the sea has never come over its harbour wall. Eight days ago the old historian Tobias Wren vanished from Wrenhallow House on the cliff road, and his niece Clara wants him found. The constable says old men wander. Tobias did not wander: he was writing something down. A shut-up manor, a library with a locked archive, a doctor with steady hands and a genial harbour merchant all have something to hide, and the spring tide is coming.
A two- to three-session investigation for Basic Roleplaying on the Modern horror preset: clues to find and share, four suspects to question, a secret room behind the panelling, a locked archive and a trapdoor under the crates, more than one way into every locked door, three endings and Sanity moments the GM sets at the table.
